Previously, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Committee Lê Tấn Tới presented a report explaining and receiving the law project. Regarding the duration and value of the visa, the majority of opinions agreed with the draft law; have suggestions for specific explanations many times is like; there is a proposal to change the “month” regulations by “day” for consistency.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee has reviewed and amended the provisions on the duration of the visa to unify the change in the calculation of “month” by “day”, in which case the period of 12 months is counted as one year. A multiple-valid visa is a type of visa issued to foreigners, which is used to enter and exit Vietnam several times during the term of the visa.

Regarding the expansion of countries whose citizens are issued electronic visas and international ports allowing foreigners to enter and exit by electronic visas, some opinions agreed to provide for the extension of the level of electronic visas to citizens of countries and territories; request the Government to review and supplement the list of countries where foreigners are granted e-visa and international gateways that allow foreigners entry by e-visas.

The National Assembly Standing Committee has directed the drafting agency to supplement the document to send to the National Assembly a draft Resolution on the list of countries and territories whose citizens are granted electronic visas; list of international border gates allowing foreigners to enter and exit by electronic visa. As soon as the Law is passed and takes effect, the Government will issue a Resolution to promptly implement it in practice.

Regarding increasing the time for granting temporary residence certificates at border gates from 15 days to 45 days, many opinions agree with the draft law; some comments suggest clarifying the basis of the 45-day regulation; suggest increasing to 60 or 90 days.

The National Assembly Standing Committee believes that raising the unilateral visa exemption period to 45 days is the average in the region, thereby, improving Vietnam’s regional competitiveness in attracting tourists; more convenient for international tourists. Therefore, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly proposed the National Assembly to keep as the draft Law submitted by the Government.
